This comal de barro / clay griddle is from Puebla, on the eastern side of the Valley of Mexico, under the two volcanoes, Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl. The hand of the maker can be seen in the outer layers of the cooking surface. The cooking surface is adorned with a wheat grass shape surrounded by two holes which are used for hanging the comal when not in use. The bottom, porous side of the comal, has a traditional bird motif.

Poctli recommends the comal be treated with cal before use. The comal can be used over electric or gas stove tops.
